Adirondacks Winter Camping 2024

During the 2024 winter reading week, the Outdoors Club ran a five-day winter backpacking trip to the Adirondack High Peak Wilderness in New York, USA. We drove from Ottawa to the Adirondacks, where we backpacked in and camped at the base of the mountain range. During our trip, we hiked the surrounding area and summited two mountains, one of which was the second tallest in the park and rose above the treeline.

Some trip highlights include summiting a peak in a blizzard, laughing together while eating burritos with frozen cheese in -27°C temperatures, and sliding back down mountains after spending the whole day ascending them. Part of what made this trip so special was the amazing group of participants – everyone was so enthusiastic and, despite not knowing each other beforehand, the group meshed very well together.
