Camel’s Hump Vermont Trip
Six of our members embarked on a three-day backpacking adventure on Camel's Hump Mountain in Vermont. The trip started off with an unexpected twist – on our first day, we accidentally took the wrong trail, which added an extra hour to our hike. Thankfully, everyone remained in good spirits and handled the detour with a sense of humor. By the end of the day, we reached our campsite located midway up the mountain and set up camp for the night.
The following morning, we rose early, to summit Camel’s Hump. The climb was tough, with steep, challenging terrain. As we neared the top, we were greeted by intense fog and strong winds. Though the summit didn’t offer us the views we had hoped for, the swirling fog and the strong wind made the experience unforgettable.
After descending to camp, we packed up and headed to the nearest shelter on the trail. Luckily, we secured six spots in one of the free shelters along the Long Trail, providing a dry refuge from the heavy rain.
On the final morning, we were up by 5:30 AM for one last adventure—a sunrise hike. Afterward, we packed up, descended to the trailhead, and began the drive back to Ottawa.
What an amazing way to kick off the semester!
